Our shop has seen a total of 100 cats since opening in August. Now that may not seem like a lot but to us, that shows us that people are seeing the value in what we are offering.

We cannot wait for the new year and continue to serve and meet a lot more of your kitty companions.

Teddy bear trim feat. Halloumi. 🐱

Halloumi came to us with lots of warnings. The last place she was groomed didn’t go so well and she got very upset. Most likely because she was groomed in the same room with dogs around.

Now for some kitties, this will be just fine but for many, it’s a big trigger. The barking, panting, fast movements and even the smell of dogs can trigger cats, specially in a new unfamiliar environment.

She did absolutely amazing in an environment like ours where it’s quiet and no other distractions. Plus, no dogs in sight.

When looking for a cat groomer, these are important questions to ask. What kind of facility do you have to make sure that your cat will feel safe in an already stressful event like grooming.

Let’s talk about the risks with grooming a cat this matted.

1. When cats are severely matted, the groom becomes very risky for both the cat and the groomer. It’s because matts this tight can be very uncomfortable for the cat and sometimes painful. The risks for injury go higher.

2. Cats can become easily agitated with the constant vibration from the clippers as it slowly cuts away the matts from the skin. This is why cats that are usually super nice can turn into an angry kitty.

3. Risks for cuts/nicks also is common due to the matts being so close to the skin. Cat’s skin is far more loose and stretchier than dogs, so even with careful clipping techniques, sometimes the skin can get caught with the blade.

4. Only highly experienced cat groomers should do this, otherwise a sedated groom at the vet will be your best option.

Lastly, prevention is key. If you have a high maintenance long hair cat, you should be bringing them at the groomers at least 4-6 times a year (all depends on how well you do the upkeep at home in between grooms).

He didn’t love the bath but he did settle at the end. This is completely normal when cats get introduced to grooming for the first time.
